Sheila Jackson Lee took a knee in solidarity with NFL Players and Mothers

Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee takes a knee on the U.S. House Floor

A day after more than 100 NFL players took a knee in protest to Trump’s comments about the NFL, Houston Democrat Sheila Jackson Lee took a knee on the House Floor Monday night in honor of the first amendment.

Jackson Lee was very appalled by the presidents use of words to describe the NFL Players. He used the terminology “Son of a Bitch”. She called it an affront to the “dignity and respect” of the Players mothers, who are all mostly African American.

She then stated, ” You tell me which of these children’s mothers are a “Son of a B”, she said in a very powerful floor speech. “That is racism. You cannot deny it, you cannot run from it. I kneel in honor of them.”

She took a knee and continued to talk through her allotted time.

“I kneel in front of the flag on the House Floor,” She said. “I kneel in honor of the First Amendment. I kneel because the flag is a symbol for freedom. I kneel because I stand against racism. I kneel because I will stand with these young men, and I will stand with our soldiers and I’ll stand with America, because I kneel.”

Her time expired on the floor but the video soon surfaced widely across social media.

She recently had an interview on Tuesday and stated that her floor protest was not planned. She didn’t know she was going to do it but she felt that she needed to in order to show her empathy for the young men as she knows some of them.
