David. A Thomas is welcomed as the 12th Morehouse President.

Morehouse College has a New President

Dr. David A. Thomas missed an opportunity to attend the college as a student, so just imagine his reality right now. Willie Woods; The Chairman of the Board of Trustees, stated that “Dr. Thomas is a nationally respected business educator and visionary leader with a support network that will bring transformative change to Morehouse College.”

The former president John S. Wilson was dismissed two months before his contract expired. Unfortunately, the interim president, William Taggart transitioned in June from an aneurysm. Thomas now has the two tasks of raising funds and increasing the graduation rate at a time where HBCUs are struggling to reach these particular goals. He has stated that he wants to boost the enrollment from 2,200 students to 2,500, provide more scholarships over the years and find solutions to improve the outcomes for Black Men.

Thomas is being heavily looked at since he is the first president since Benjamin Mays in the 1940s to not attend the university.  However, Dr. Thomas previously served as the dean of Georgetown University’s McDonough School of Business from 2011 to 2016. He raised $130 million and increased the enrollment of women and minority students. Researching and promoting diversity has been a major contribution of his.

It’s Your World.
