The current owners of Madam C.J. Walker’s century-old mansion have put the home up for sale.

Purchased in 1993, current owners Helena and Harold Doley are ready to move out. Known as Villa Lewaro the estate was built in 1917 after Walker became the first self-made female millionaire.

In 1919 after her death, Walker left the home to her daughter A’Lelia Walker. Eventually the home made its way into the custody of the NAACP who could not maintain the property and it was sold in the 1930’s and sometime thereafter became a retirement home.
