We asked RL Taylor questions about fashion, the future of his brand and more.

Interview with Rich Taylor of Harrison Blake Apparel

We had the opportunity to have a interview with Entrepreneur, Author, innovator and podcaster Rich “RL” Taylor. In 2014, Rich took his love of fashion and established a brand named after his son called Harrison Blake Apparel.

We were able to ask him a few questions about his thoughts on fashion, his style and the future of the company, these were his responses:

Interviewer:

“It’s always a great thing to see men dressing well, How did you come to the conclusion that this was an issue you wanted to contribute to?”

RL Taylor:

“I worked with an organization that helped youth in need of guidance and also men returning to the workforce after incarceration. I saw there was a definite need for educating them on professional dress for the workplace.
It is a sad reality that people make conclusions about us, based on our outward appearance. I also wanted to provide an affordable alternative that would be accessible to everyone.”

Interviewer:

“Ralph Lauren started out making professional neckties in 1967 and little did he know that would catapult his success, do you plan to expand outside of neckties with the Harrison Blake Apparel Brand?”

RL Taylor:

“With the Harrison Blake brand, we actually have expanded somewhat as far as accessories are concerned. We offer pocket squares, socks, lapel pins, rings, bracelets, tie bars and the like for men who love to accessorize and express themselves through fashion.

My son in which the company was named after, is 7 and fascinated with technology. So he says when he gets older he’s like to develop a Harrison Blake phone or Tablet (so you never know)”

Interviewer:

“Where did you gain your personal style from?”

RL Taylor:

“My personal style leans towards the classic and somewhat vintage side of
fashion. I like things that are timeless and can be worn for years and not go “out of style’. basically I try to avoid trends and fads. Some of my fashion inspiration comes from Ralph Lauren.”

Interviewer:

“Do you like men’s style today?”

RL Taylor:

“Yes, men’s style today is very appealing because there is so much variety. From street style, to classic looks and everything in between there is something for everyone. It’s nice to see the wide range of colors, textures and patterns. Everyone can express themselves individually so its a great time to be involved.”

Interviewer:

”Where do you see men’s style going in the future?”

RL Taylor:

“I see men’s style reverting back to the 20’s and 30’s. You can already see alot of that happening now with the texture of popular suit brands and also notice the widening of the lapels. The classic look will never die,
because it is form fitting, not tight and helps guys look athletic. I believe we have made the turn past the skinny and tight movement and now men are seeking a refined look with hats and unique accessories to make a statement. I’m here for it!”

Thanks for the opportunity to interview you! We wish you much success.
